The old farmer’s house
The house sleeps 16 pers in seven rooms that sleep either two or three people, made up beds. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, a dining room for 25 people, and a small sitting room. The basement has a sauna and changing rooms, and there is a large hot tub outside. In the middle floor are 2 bathrooms and one shower and in the cellar there is a basic shower and a toilet for the hot tub and sauna.  

 
Cottages
The first three cottages, each about 50m2 (540 ft2), each sleep six people in two rooms and a loft. One room has a double bed and the other a bunk bed, where the lower bunk sleeps two. Up to six people can sleep in the loft (mattresses provided). The cottages all have bathrooms, well-equipped kitchens and a joined dining and sitting room with a TV. The porches are large and partially covered and come with coal grills, patio furniture and a hot tub.

Additional four cottages each sleep two people. Two of them are 36m2 and the other two are 26m2 (387 ft2 and 280 ft2, respectively). The larger two have one bedroom with twin beds and a single bunk bed space above the beds, as well as a double sofa bed in the multi-purpose room where you’ll find the kitchen, dining room and TV. The smaller cottages have a single bedroom with twin beds and a double sofa bed in the multi-purpose room. A small, covered patio is by each house, with a hot tub, coal grill and patio furniture.

 
Board

Guests prepare their own meals. The nearest supermarkets and diners are in town Dalvík (14 km / 9 km).

 
Service and recreation

There are daily riding tours from farm Kálfsskinn (2 km / 1.2 mi), and guests can also enjoy sea angling and trout fishing, or go whale watching from Dalvík or village Hauganes (6 km / 3.7 mi). There are many hiking routes nearby and further afield in the region. During late summer you can enjoy berry picking, and ptarmigan season starts in early winter. Ski lands in the region are very good. The scheduled boat rides to island Hrísey depart from Árskógssandur (6.5 km / 4 mi). The local district museum is in town Dalvík, and the Herring Museum and the Folk Music Centre in town Siglufjörður are also very interesting (48 km / 30 mi). For golf, head to Dalvík or the larger town Akureyri. Dalvík is furthermore the nearest town with various services, diners and supermarkets whereas the larger Akureyri, the capital of the north, is 29 km (18 mi) away.

 
Eyjafjörður fjord – Akureyri

The farmlands in Eyjafjörður, inland, along the shoreline or by majestic mountains, have quite a lot to offer visitors. Ytri-Vík is ideally located for various excursions, whether you head north to explore valley Svarfaðardalur and towns Ólafsfjörður and Siglufjörður, or head south to valley Öxnadalur and the head of Eyjafjörður, where town Akureyri welcomes visitors with lively happenings, varied cultural events and good nightlife.

 
Hikes by Ytri-Vík and in valley Svarfaðardalur

Hikers have plenty to choose from around here. Rising up almost directly from the shore is mountain Kötlufjall, which frequently tempts mountaineers. A little further north is valley Þorvaldsdalur, where hikers of every age will find easy to moderate routes. Valley Svarfaðardalur, 12 km (7.5 mi) north of Ytri-Vík is one of Iceland’s more beautiful valleys and is a hiker’s paradise. You can join guided hikes from farm Klængshóll in valley Skíðadalur or you can follow the marked trail from farm Kot and to lake Skeiðsvatn (45 minutes).
