Iceland is open and safe to visit
April 2nd 2025
April 1st saw a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula from an active volcano line that had been erupting with regular interval since December 2023. This was the 8th eruption on this particular line.
These seismic activities lasted for less than 24 hours and as of April 2nd seem to be over. Again to reiterate, there was never any imminent harm or immediate danger to anyone although evacuation procedures were implemented to ensure everyone’s safety.
We @HeyIceland will still monitor official reports from the site and update our information with relevant information pertaining to travellers.

Regarding the eruption in Iceland
Today we are experiencing an eruption in the Reykjanes Peninsula from an active volcano line that has been erupting with regular interval since December 2023. This would be the 8th eruption on this particular line.
First off let’s address the larger concern: Iceland is open for travel, safe and the eruption should have minimal, if any effect on your travel plans.
These eruptions are localized in the Reykjanes peninsula, and the only tourist destination somewhat affected is the Blue lagoon which is forced to temporarily cease operations due to its close proximity, while the situation is assessed.
With every eruption our Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management has grown more skilled at keeping both people and infrastructure safe. Throughout these events Keflavik International Airport has remained open despite its relative proximity to the eruption sites.
To reiterate, Iceland is open and remains an extremely safe destination. If instructions from local authorities are observed, then there is no danger or immediate harm to travellers due to these volcanic activities.
We at Hey Iceland will continue to monitor these events and inform our guests of any developments that may threaten their safety or alter their travel plans. If you have any concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us for further information.
