Tempting hiking trails, birdlife, and summer beauty
Dýrafjörður fjord is famous for its striking nature and summer beauty. The area is ideal for hiking, both up to the mountains and along the shoreline. Tempting hiking trails can be found in the Gemlufell neighbourhood and the shore offers varied birdlife, and seals can sometimes be spotted basking there.
Haukadalur Valley, Dynjandi Waterfall, Rauðisandur Beach, Látrabjarg Cliff
Gemlufall is nicely located for day trips southward. To the south of Dýrafjörður fjord you can drive to Þingeyri in Haukadalur shere you will enter the areas written about in the Saga of Gísli Súrsson. A drive to visit Dynjandi Waterfall (59 km) is also recommended. For longer drives we recommend a trip to Rauðisandur Beach and Látrabjar Cliff (180 km from Gemlufall).
