Explore the wonders of these mysterious man-made caves in a guided tour.
On the land of Ægissíða by Hella twelve caves have been discovered and four are now open to the public. These are Iceland’s oldest archaeological remains that are still standing. No one knows exactly how old these caves are but some believe that they date even further back then the settlement of the Nordic Vikings. In the caves you will find carved seats, ancient crosses and wall carvings. Many questions are unanswered and for centuries people have e.g. wondered if the caves are a creation of the Celts and if the caves were a place of ancient worship.
