Glacier Encounter

Glacier Encounter

This is a short glacier hike on Falljökull glacier with Local Guide of Vatnajökull, a family-run company. Participants meet near Skaftafell Nature Reserve and take a brief drive in super jeeps for a small group experience. This easy 3-hour tour offers an excellent introduction to glaciers in Vatnajökull National Park. The drive to the glacier conserves energy and maximizes enjoyment on the ice. All tours are carbon-offset to minimize environmental impact. At the glacier, participants gear up with crampons and ice axes to explore ice features like moulins, crevasses, moraines, and dirt cones. The guide shares insights about the local Öræfi region, which includes Iceland’s highest peak and several volcanoes. The glacier's appearance varies by season, with summer offering stunning views of mountain peaks and distant black sand beaches. Available from 5 June to 30 September.
