Don’t miss the majestic Hvítserkur Cliff, which legend claims is a petrified troll, that several species of birds such as gulls and fulmars nest on. The cliff stands 15 metres high just off Vatnsnes Peninsula, which is the island largest seal colony, and seals can often be seen basking on its shore. Visit Glaumbær, the old turf farmhouse, and the old turf church at Víðimýri before ending the day in Akureyri town.

Take in the impressive Goðafoss, the waterfall of the Gods, one of Iceland’s most stunning waterfalls. Continue to the Lake Mývatn area which has many incredible natural wonders such as Dimmuborgir Lava Fields and Námufjall Geothermal Area. End the day by relaxing in the warm waters of Mývatn Nature Baths and enjoy the view of surrounding landscape.

Explore Húsavík town, the island’s whale-watching capital, with its colourful houses, unique museums and snowcapped peaks across the bay. Go whale watching and see whales in their natural habitat. Visit Tjörnes, a peninsula known for its dense population of ptarmigan and rich fossil, as well as Öxarfjörður, a lovely fjord featuring woodlands and tuff mountains before continuing to the northern part of Vatnajökull National Park, which includes some of the most spectacular and diverse sights in Iceland such as Ásbyrgi Canyon, Dettifoss Waterfall and Hljóðaklettar Echo Cliffs.

Head to Egilsstaðir town through the mystical barren landscape of Möðrudalsöræfi. The town lies on the banks of Lagarfljót River, the alleged home of sea serpent Lagarfljótsormur! In the area are Hengifoss Waterfall, Hallormsstaður National Forest and Skriðuklaustur Centre of Culture and History.

Driving the Eastfjords is a delight - the rugged coastline, looming mountains, remote farms and fishing villages offer peace and tranquillity. There are many places and villages of interest such as Papey Island a nature reserve, Seyðisfjörður village and Fáskrúðsfjörður, which has a great view of the hollow cliff island, Skrúður, which rises steeply out of the sea east of the bay. Continue to Höfn, a charming town set in a stunning setting, famous for its delicious lobster.

Admire the breathtaking view as you drive the southeast shore and stop to explore Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon, the biggest glacial lagoon of its kind. Cruise between towering icebergs and watch the seals play in the lagoon. Take an unusual tour of Ingólfshöfði, an isolated cape between the black sands of the south coast and the ocean, on a hay wagon (May to August). Continue to Skaftafell National Park, which offers many walking and hiking trails with an amazing view.

Discover some of Iceland’s most lovely sights that include Fjaðrárgljúfur, a striking canyon located not far from Kirkjubæjarklaustur village, Vík village and Reynisfjara, a black sand beach with basalt stacks. South of Vík village is Dyrhólaey, a 120-meter high cape and nature sanctuary with vertical cliff walls teeming with birds. Stop at Skógar where you will find the magnificent waterfall, Skógafoss, and Skógar Folk Museum. Continue to Seljalandsfoss and walk behind the waterfall.
