Itinerary

Day 1 | West Iceland and Heydalur

You are picked-up in Reykjavik in the morning and then driven through the beautiful landscapes of West Iceland to the secluded and peaceful Heydalur Valley in the Westfjords. Total travel time is 6-7 hrs including stops at several attractions en route; the Settlement Centre at Borgarnes for a peak into Iceland's Viking past and lunch, Deildartunguhver Hot Spring and Hraunfossar and Barnafossar falls, driving through historic Reykholt as well. In the evening you are served a scrumptious 3-course dinner with the family in a converted old barn at Heydalur. Afterwards, you can relax in the on-site natural hot spring pool. If the skies are clear you have the possibility of seeing the Northern Lights.

Accommodation at Heydalur.

Days 2 - 4 | Westfjords Excursions

The programme for the next 3 days is flexible and depends on weather conditions each day, time of year and guests' desires. There are opportunities for several guided tours and activities (included in the tour price):

  • Guided hike to Drangajökull Glacier or snow-shoe hiking in Heydalur Valley.
  • Guided ice-fishing tour to a nearby mountain lake and surroundings including the salt factory in Reykjanes, old Viking-age ruins in Vatnsfjörður and a look at Heydalur's private troll, Þrándur, along the way. Alternatively, in autumn, a kayak trip in the fjord or a horse riding tour along the river.
  • Guided day tour to Ísafjörður town and surroundings including visits to the church, library, old town and viewing point over Ísafjörður, Hvítanes seal colony, the small folk museum Litli Bær in Skötufjörður, the Arctic Fox Centre in Súðavík and Ósvör Maritime Museum.
  • Exploration of Heydalur and surroundings. You can go for a walk or just relax, perhaps bathe in the hot spring pool or enjoy the company of the resident pets and farm animals including an arctic fox!

Every evening you will enjoy delicious 3-course meals and a dip in the natural hot spring pool followed by a northern lights hunt in the valley - or perhaps straight from the pool!
